Sir Francis Drake overview

Here is a nice page about Sir Francis Drake:

http://sirfrancisdrakehistory.net/ I found it from the illustration of careening a ship. What does this have to do with us?

Hannah Drake was Captain John Higley’s first wife. We descend from Hannah and John. John remarried after her death - he married Sarah Strong. We also descend from John and Sarah!

John Higley and Hannah Drake’s great-grandson Seth Higley (Revolutionary War patriot) married Mindwell Higley. Mindwell is the granddaughter of John Higley and Sarah Strong. Seth and Mindwell’s daughter Sally Higley married George Allen Barnard. George Allen Barnard established our Barnards of western Pennsylvania.

According to “The Higleys, An Old Colonial Family,” by Mary Coffin Johnson in 1896, Hannah Drake is of the same Drake family that included Sir Francis Drake. We’re not direct descendants, but we’re related… and, of course, the Drake tribe was the best tribe of possibly the best season of the Survivor TV series. (That’s where Rupert Boneham stole the show!) So… now you have a link to a page or three about the life and times of Sir Francis Drake.

State of Missouri Death Certificates online 1910-1955

SOS Home :: Records Services :: State Archives :: Death Certificates - The actual certificates are online for 1910-1920, and the index (with date of death) is there through 1955. Tremendous resource!

George Allen Barnard and Rosanna Rosemary Johnston established our Barnards of western Pennsylvania.
John Dierlam and Kate Coward established our Dierlams of Indianola and Seadrift Texas.
